podcast, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7qcGJr4xKQ">Social Media Marketing and PR in 2024 - YouTube</a>, aired on both video and audio. Nearing the end of the hour-long interview
the host said, let’s play a game.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The host found four short videos on TikTok of people talking
about public relations. Based on my 30 years of experience in marketing communications and as a public relations firm owner, he asked me to watch
and comment on each and discuss their accuracy.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While three of the four were fairly on target, one totally missed
the mark. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The young woman said that unless your public relations
campaign is providing you with a fast ROI, and generating revenue, it isn’t
working and should be dropped immediately. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Obviously, this TikToker did not understand the role of
public relations.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">PR is not sales or marketing. It uses strategic
communications to build brand recognition, trust, credibility, and mutually
beneficial relationships with stakeholders.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The public relations plan should be carefully crafted by an
experienced professional or team to coincide with a company’s messaging, goals, and objectives. It should be designed for both the near and long term.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The plan should be based on research from the CEO, key executives, and customers with input from marketing and sales, but not designed as a lead
generation tool. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It should be constructed to build trust and credibility in
the marketplace which eventually helps tilt future competitive sales situations
in your favor. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Depending on the needs of the business, the plan can include
media relations or publicity, special events to interact one-on-one with
targeted audiences, thought leadership to build recognition and reputation for
the CEO, HR/recruiting strategies, content building, and crisis communications
should a major event unfold.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Though a well-placed article or TV story can generate leads
and sales (and has for several of our clients), its main purpose is to enhance
relations with the communities and audiences the company serves.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It lays the groundwork for a company to build on its
reputation as a good community citizen and inspires confidence and pride in
the sales staff and the entire team.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While there are many lead-gen tools such as purchasing ads, enhancing
SEO, and buying lists of prospects, PR is not one of them.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Those who are told a PR plan will provide a quick boost to

Public relations professionals will have to maintain flexibility and adjust accordingly to help their employer, or their clients, reach their objectives.</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Here then are five strategies to contemplate as you create your public relations game plan.<span id="more-594" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span></p><h2 style="background-color: white; clear: none; color: #00215b; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 44px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-size: small;">1. Build strong relationships with key writers and editors.</span></h2><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Most experienced public relations professionals understand the value of maintaining solid relationships with key reporters who cover their or their client’s industry. Those relationships will have even higher value as print publications, TV and radio stations continue to scale back their staffs due to the decline in ad spending. Reporters and editors remain hard-pressed to do more with less and yet still put out a quality product in a timely manner. Establishing a strong relationship with a reporter can set you up as a solid resource, able to deliver valuable ideas and news items the writer can use to shape or enhance their stories. This high level of trust is now more important than ever, and can result in multiple articles and opportunities that benefit both your client and yourself for the long-term.</p><h2 style="background-color: white; clear: none; color: #00215b; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 44px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-size: small;">2. Focus on clicks and hits.</span></h2><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Media outlets are busily building digital audiences to grab their piece of the shrinking ad revenue pie. Reporters too are tasked to develop news items that can be optimized online and read by thousands. The goal is to not only get those stories placed on the publication’s site but also recirculated on social media to increase overall readership. PR pros should create and pitch stories in a manner reflective of that objective. Turning a run-of-the-mill news release into something with more meat and excitement will help to not only get the story published but get it optimized on social media for greater reach and market penetration.</p><h2 style="background-color: white; clear: none; color: #00215b; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 44px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-size: small;">3. Write for immediate impact.</span></h2><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Public relations professionals need to pitch their stories where the most interesting aspects are at the top of the page, not buried in the fifth or six paragraph. As mentioned earlier reporters are hard pressed for time and have little wiggle room to spend trying to decipher a confusing news release, especially when there are hundreds of others to sort through. PR pros should deliver a hard-hitting first paragraph and then provide any support material below. That material should be easy to read and can even be broken out into bullet points to make it easier to digest.</p><h2 style="background-color: white; clear: none; color: #00215b; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 44px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-size: small;">4. Know how to reach your client’s audience, today.</span></h2><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Key research about your client’s prospective buyers is paramount to generating top line results from your PR efforts. Properly targeting those buyers can make or break your campaign. This is true for any year but especially in the pandemic driven work-at-home environment. Are business to business buyers still reading industry publications, listening to podcasts and attending webinars? Can they be reached on social media or is their time focused on other areas? Determining the best ways to reach them will help you greatly improve results.</p><h2 style="background-color: white; clear: none; color: #00215b; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 44px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-size: small;">5. Think visually.</span></h2><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">Since so much of media now relies on photos and videos, PR pros should think about visual elements to go with any story pitch. A short video or a series of interesting photos (if possible) should accompany any news release, whether print or broadcast. Visuals are ideal for digital and social media, and help make your story pitch stand out above the rest. Small photos can even be inserted into the news release to peak the reporters interest and enhance coverage opportunities.</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;">For more visit <a href="https://solomonturner.com">Solomon Turner PR</a></p><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"> </p><p style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: Montserrat, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px;"> </p>solomonturner.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00048632882398289105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4859286014937335676.post-15018553467058923292020-02-08T07:47:00.000-08:002020-02-08T07:51:31.919-08:00Win Your Own Oscar<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Awards season is upon us.<br />
<br />
<br />
Hollywood’s finest have already adorned the red carpet
for the Golden Globes, SAG awards and Grammys. The Academy Awards are now
center stage.<br />
<br />
Business owners should also consider the start of 2020 as
their awards season. <br />
<br />
This is an excellent time to plan on entering some key
award competitions that will build your company’s credibility, add leadership
and authority positioning, and create earned media and PR opportunities.<br />
<br />
While many business awards have value and certainly are
worth pursuing, others do not.<br />
<br />
Here are five tips to help you secure a prestigious honor
and then leverage it for a maximum return on investment.<br />
<br />
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">1. Develop an
awards strategy. </i><br />
<br />
Companies should take a proactive approach. They need to
do a little research and determine which awards will be most beneficial in
helping them grow their brand. <br />
<br />
In some cases large, national honors, such as the Inc. 5000,
are the only ones worth chasing. For others local awards, such as Fastest Growing
Companies, Top Accounting Firm, Best Places To Work etc., can offer a high
level of prestige for your client base and prospects. <br />
<br />
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">2. Designate an
awards ambassador.</i><br />
<br />
Many businesses make the mistake of putting off award
submissions then realize they only have a limited time to get all the materials
compiled and submitted. <br />
<br />
Designating a point person to be your awards ambassador
can ensure that all necessary paperwork is readily or near-readily available.
They can also seek out award opportunities in-line with the company’s mission
and values.<br />
<br />
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">3. Fine tune focus
and costs.</i><br />
<br />
Nearly all reputable awards are given out at no cost or
require a small, affordable entry fee. However some ask for a hefty sum just
for consideration. <br />
<br />
While the sponsoring company certainly incurs some costs
with processing and judging applications, those with seemingly excessive fees
should be avoided.<br />
<br />
Many unknown organizations practically proclaim you have
already been named the top company in your category and for an $800 fee will secure
your listing and send you a nice trophy. In the long run these meaningless
honors have no value for you or your clients.<br />
<br />
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">4. Share your award
with your team.</i><br />
<br />
Some companies will spend hours working on an awards application
then bury the news once they receive their special honor. They place their
plaque or trophy on a shelf in the lobby and then forget about it. <br />
<br />
The business owner should ensure that all members of the
team share in this success. The award should be shown and highlighted during a
company meeting. Those most responsible for attaining the award should be
recognized. <br />
<br />
News of the award should be posted on the company website
and included in the newsletter. The award can serve as vehicle to build team
camaraderie, enhance prestige, improve employee satisfaction, and create a buzz
throughout the organization.<br />
<br />
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">5. Leverage your
recognition for optimal branding and publicity.</i><br />
<br />
Most awarding organizations will attempt to highlight its
honored companies. Usually this occurs through a listing in the event program,
an ad in a publication, or a template news release sent to the winners to
distribute to their local media. However businesses should escalate those
efforts. <br />
<br />
Winners should post the news of the award, and the
accompanying photo and/or video, on its website and all viable social media
channels. Company formatted news releases should be created and distributed to
the local media, business publications and trade journals. <br />
<br />
News of the award can be highlighted in an email
newsletter sent to clients. An award badge or line of recognition can be added
to email signature lines. A story surrounding how the team made the
accomplishment happen provides excellent content for the company blog. <br />
<br />
Winning a prestigious award can not only elevate the
company in the minds of its employees and clients, but also serves as an
attractive recruiting tool. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTTLM6801WMjTaoeOscROtCK30Pi2ZehI0M2kayv_eUYhax4TF5RqlQ64zslgDnAUDWmE5GrHN0pZTmvtQsfHU1sO5_98cVF1xBredthXndotEQSXQ1JxKdBZ7dZqb8dAKUH5PAasI-Q8/s1600/Website-photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTTLM6801WMjTaoeOscROtCK30Pi2ZehI0M2kayv_eUYhax4TF5RqlQ64zslgDnAUDWmE5GrHN0pZTmvtQsfHU1sO5_98cVF1xBredthXndotEQSXQ1JxKdBZ7dZqb8dAKUH5PAasI-Q8/s320/Website-photo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Your website is your calling card to the world.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
In many cases it is the first point of contact between you,
your firm and potential customers.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
A properly designed and well-written website can go a long
way to enhancing any type of perception you wish to create with your targeted
audience.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
A poorly constructed website can do just the opposite. It
can counteract any advertising, media relations or community outreach program and
result in wasted time, wasted money and a lack of opportunities.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Yes this is 2019 and many business owners understand the
value of a well thought-out and well-designed website. Still, even today, many do
not.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
As a fan of Donald Miller and his StoryBrand approach to
website design, https://storybrand.com, you can search around the internet and
see which businesses are creating the right message about their company and
which ones simply are not.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Whether you want your website to serve as an e-commerce site,
where customers can actually purchase goods online, as a lead generator for your
sales team, or as an educational tool to promote your webinars and courses, certain
design themes are universal no matter the approach. These include…</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1. Gearing your
website for your specific audience</b>. Think like a customer. If you were
shopping for an item and went to your website would you consider purchasing it
from <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">you</i>? </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
If you are an accountant, and you are interested in
attracting business owners, do you have enough of the key items a business is
looking for to generate an email or call from a prospect? </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
If you are selling tractors to construction companies do you
have the right language, photos, and sales keys to peak their interest? </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">2. Stating what you
do clearly and concisely. </b>Your key sales message should be at the top of
your home page. Your lede headline if you will. Does your company lease
tractors? “Lease A Tractor At A Tenth Of The Cost Of Buying One” should be the
first thing someone sees at the top of your website under your name. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Many businesses begin their story with “Welcome to our page.
We have been in business for over 50 years. Our firm prides ourselves on
excellent products and customer service, blah, blah, blah. Then at the bottom
of the page they finally tell you what they do or what action they want you to
take. “If you are interested in leasing a tractor from us we are happy to serve
your needs.” </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
In this time-constrained world most people do not have the
time to spend 10 minutes to sift through your website. You need to grab their
interest immediately with the key items they are looking for or want to hear about.
You can later support your offerings with company history, a customer list etc.
to build credibility. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Copy can also include key search engine optimization terms
to make it easier to find your page on search engines. However your major
messaging and selling points should not be sacrificed to add in excessive amounts
of key words. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
If you are not sure you are getting through to your audience
ask some friends or even your kids if they know what you do, and what your
message is, by reading the home page. <span style="margin: 0px;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">3. Providing a call
to action. </b>You need to tell the customer what you want them to do, and do
not be ashamed of over-doing it. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
This is a “call to action”. Many calls to actions are often
hidden and don’t show up until page five or six of many websites. Some do not show-up
at all.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
If you want your customer to call for an appointment, signup
for a whitepaper, or enroll in a webinar it needs to be on your home page. You
can create a button that takes them to the signup page or initiates a chatbox
with someone who can answer their questions. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Some sites even have a chatbox that jumps out at you when
you visit their homepage, though this can be annoying. Placing your call to
action on multiple pages is fine. It will help you gather key information about
prospective clients such as their email address for follow-up.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
The more you display your confidence in your products and
approach, the more confidence the customer will have in doing business with
you.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">4. Ease of
navigation.</b> Your website should be designed for the optimal customer experience.
It should flow from page to page. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
One page should support another. The home page should peak a
reader’s interest. The second page should support your sales proposition and
messaging on page one. The third page should support your sales proposition
with even more details than page two. Pages four and five should do the same. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Common examples of supporting pages include more photos of
new products, customer lists and testimonials, photos of your team, videos, and
a little history about your firm. You can add a page with a blog and company newsroom.
The goal is to maintain a reader’s engagement and continually reinforce your
message.</div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">5. Periodic updates. </b>A
company can look stale and out-of-touch with a website that truly looks dated. Some
sites have photos of people no longer with the firm. Many have newsrooms that have
not been updated for 10 years. You will find some with photos of poor quality
or pages with hundreds of words of text. </div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
For most businesses a website that is well written, graphically
pleasing, concise in its messaging and easy to navigate not only helps enhance
its image but also helps increase sales.</div>

<span style="margin: 0px;"><br /></span>
<span style="margin: 0px;"><br /></span><span style="margin: 0px;">Have you been the subject of some
negative media coverage?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="margin: 0px;">As your company grows (adding
employees, launching new products and expanding to new markets) so do the possibilities
for some critical press coverage. Here are several action steps to take to
handle those situations…</span><br />
<br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">1. Be prepared.</b> Sounds simple but
many companies are often caught unprepared when problems arise.<span style="margin: 0px;"> </span>First have a crisis communications plan in
place. You never know what can happen in the day-to-day operation of even a
small business. A business owner should be prepared for a fire, disgruntled
customers, an employee that gets too aggressive with customers or becomes
unstable, food poisoning-if it is a restaurant or supermarket, or even a
security breach. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"></b><br />
<br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">2. Determine the severity of the
negative news.</b> Did you get a small negative mention in the newspaper or
something that can be misconstrued as negative? Is there one angry customer who
is ticked off about an item? Or, did a TV station do a virtual “hammer job” on
your business where 12 angry customers were on camera all complaining about
your bad service, a troublesome employee, or defective merchandise? The
severity of the negative press will determine what steps to take next. <br />
<br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">3. In most cases the best course of
action is no action.</b> If it is something relatively minor than the best
course of action would probably be to take no action. In this day of the 24
hour news cycle most people will glance over anything that isn’t a major story
or something that doesn’t get published in multiple outlets. In most cases
there is no need to fan the flames to make the situation worse than it is. If
the negative press is a very minor mention in a newspaper, and not really an issue
or a problem, there is no need to run ads apologizing for any mishaps. Drawing
more attention to the issue only pours gasoline on the fire. <br />
<br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">4. Take a proactive approach when the
issue becomes serious. </b>A business owner should try to get out in front of
any serious issue that could negatively impact the company. If you hear from a
customer or contact in advance that a newspaper or TV station is going to do a
negative story don’t hide from it. Failing to respond to multiple media
requests indicates your firm is “guilty” of some violation, whether true or
not.<span style="margin: 0px;"> </span>Instead, take precautions to fix
that problem. <br />
<br />
Companies can be proactive by issuing a letter to the media or to customers.
This is a typical corporate response that will usually be effective...<br />
<br />
“We realize that there was an issue with our delivery system. We apologize
for any problems this may have created for our customers. We have made staff
changes and the appropriate alterations to the system which should alleviate
any issue moving forward. Customers should no longer have any problems. Meantime,
we will be happy to honor merchandise returns or cash reimbursements if
necessary. We have been in business for 20 years and we appreciate the business
we have received from the Dunlap area for the past two decades. Many of you we
not only consider customers but also good friends. If you have an issue please
call me personally at (phone number). We look forward to continuing to serve
your needs.” <br />
<br />
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">5. Take caution about granting
interviews.</b> If it is a situation spiraling out of control the owner may
feel compelled to appear on camera or answer tough questions with a newspaper
reporter. They first should secure some media training. The owner should be
schooled and prepared to answer some probing inquiries. Keep in mind physical
appearance plays a strong role in how the public will perceive the owner, the
company and the situation. This includes wearing the proper attire and hosting
the interview in the proper setting. Take a proactive approach and avoid the “got
cha” parking lot camera crews.<br />
<br />
<b>6</b><b>. Watch and learn. </b>Read the newspaper(s) and watch TV news, both
network (such as 60 Minutes) and local. Keep an eye out for any stories that
could be a crisis or a negative situation. Watch how those firms or
organizations react. Some of the schools and major companies have a good plan
to handle negative press. Some do not. It becomes obvious when a major chain or
business keeps getting blasted by the media without any type of response.<br />
<br />
Case in point, in my
view Chipotle did a poor job of handling the original crisis they faced with
food poisoning. Eventually the CEO appeared on the Today Show to discuss it but
it was not impactful and they took too long to respond. The stock price
tanked. Chipotle, overall a good company, continues to have issues from
time-to-time with food illnesses. I am sure they have lost thousands of
customers over time.<br />
<br />
A business owner needs to be prepared for anything that could go wrong. They
need to have a plan in place for any type of crises and/or negative situation. At
the same time they need to be astute enough to analyze if some negative news is
really “negative” and will impact their business. If the answer is “no” than
don’t spend time making the problem worse. If is the answer is “yes” then
take the appropriate action to first fix the problem, and then let the
appropriate media know the problem is resolved.<br />

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Nabisco opened the cages and the media began to play.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">In a move that garnered national media attention, Nabisco
decided to change its Barnum’s Animal Cracker packaging.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Several PR lessons can be learned from Nabisco’s strategy.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Some background…The cookie company adjusted its graphics to
eliminate the current look of the caged animals on wheels. Now they will
utilize new packaging with the animals apparently in the wild and no bars to
speak of.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Nabisco’s parent company, Mondelez International, said they
were succumbing to pressure from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals).</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">According to news reports, PETA had been calling for the
firm to change the packaging since 2016.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I</span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">n a report posted by CBS, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/barnum-animal-crackers-box-nabisco-mondelez-international-boxes-get-new-look-animals-freed/">https://www.cbsnews.com/news/barnum-animal-crackers-box-nabisco-mondelez-international-boxes-get-new-look-animals-freed/</a>,
PETA said in a letter to Mondelez, “Given the egregious cruelty inherent in
circuses that use animals and the public’s swelling opposition to the
exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its
packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural
habitats.”</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">At the same time PETA was pressuring the cookie’s namesake,
Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey to free its animals. The circus stopped
using elephants as part of its show in 2016 and due to slowing ticket sales,
folded entirely in 2017.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Circus or no, the new cracker boxes have been redesigned to
take away the implication that the animals are traveling in box cars for use in
a show. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Whether or not a youngster, or even his or her parents,
would actually connect the dots between caged animals, a traveling circus, and
animal cruelty by simply glancing at the package and consuming its contents is
irrelevant in the scenario. Indeed it is a public relations play that actually
has two winners.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">First, PETA can take a victory lap. The organization and its
6.5 million members can rejoice they have impacted the operations of another
major international conglomerate and changed the look of an iconic brand.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The big winner though is Nabisco and Mondelez. The company wins
on many fronts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">One, it used its marketing bullets to garner lots of
national and international media attention. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Two, it waited for prime selling season as in the
back-to-school, pack my lunchbox time period to make their announcement. If
nothing else the news coverage should give the brand a boost this summer and
fall.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Three, it builds the perception that the company is “up to
date”, in tune with millennials and others who oppose anything closely related
to animal cruelty.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Smaller firms without an iconic 100+ year-old brand to fall
back on can still utilize many of the Nabisco PR techniques.</span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">You can…</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">•Release any
major news in a time of year most likely to get maximum media coverage.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">•Formulate
their news in a manner that will have high impact with their consumers or their clients
and prospects.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">•Redesign or
retool product packaging, offerings, and website to show it is in tune with
today’s marketplace.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">•Create
events with top-of-the-mind social causes to demonstrate its modern relevancy
to the purchasers of it products.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The Nabisco animal crackers campaign provides some good PR
food for thought, and some good tasting ones at that.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZuLTvkHPN4AM1Yygzv0Qga64krfmNaLiM_EW2KS0fTNPJMbfNL5f8J0MB0G76Szch4S4KUSlwh_do11JbaArubnCZOznZbb5VwlXyABRqpTmZmRtnOI8IA3zMyFop_LVI9SDqbc6B0eM/s1600/Bang.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="380" data-original-width="400" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZuLTvkHPN4AM1Yygzv0Qga64krfmNaLiM_EW2KS0fTNPJMbfNL5f8J0MB0G76Szch4S4KUSlwh_do11JbaArubnCZOznZbb5VwlXyABRqpTmZmRtnOI8IA3zMyFop_LVI9SDqbc6B0eM/s320/Bang.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So your company was just featured in a newspaper article. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Perhaps you were interviewed for a </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">segment on the 10pm News or supplied comments for an industry blog. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Bottom line is you just got some great press. The question now becomes how to get the biggest PR bang for the buck, so to speak, to maximize the impact of your publicity efforts.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Many businesses are just happy to get the exposure. They will get a few comments such as, "Hey, saw your article," or "Saw you on TV last night," and be excited that someone mentioned it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Unfortunately, while many of these of placements provide good name recognition, in many cases they reach only a very small percentage of your actual customers and prospects. This is especially true for business-to-business type companies.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">At the end of the day, the article, in and of itself, yields little in the way of increased customer awareness, website activity, and prospect inquiries. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But there are ways to leverage your coverage and create some real benefits with your targeted customer list. Here are some of them...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>1. Post your article on your website</b></i>. Hopefully you have a newsroom on your site. Companies wishing to check you out will always go to your website before they will let you in the door. Showcasing a nice article or interview will help solidify your place as a segment leader in the marketplace.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>2. Post your article on LinkedIn.</b> </i>You probably have hundreds of connections on LinkedIn. So too do your employees. Many of those connections are clients and some firms you wish to do business with. If three or four people post the article in their newsfeed there is a great probability that thousands will see it, and many of those are the right people.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b>3<i>. Post your article on your Facebook page.</i></b> Your Facebook page may or may not be viable when it comes to reaching your targeted audience. Still on a local level it can enable you to connect with hundreds of key influencers. It can be worth the effort even if you have to purchase a few Facebook ads to spread the word.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>4. Highlight your article in your email newsletter.</b></i> Most companies do some type of email marketing. Including your article will add some excitement to the mailing and build credibility with your customer base.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>5. Send the article to prospects.</b> </i>Trying to win new business as part of a shoot-out with two or three competitors? Sending the decision maker your new article or interview may be just enough to sway them your way.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>6. Use your article as a tool in your sales kit.</b></i> In addition to sending your publicity piece to your customer list you should run off a copy of the article, or create a digital link, as part of your sales kit. After all this is a third party endorsement of your business from a reputable media outlet. All salespeople should have this in their tool box and should be excited to display it when they meet new prospects.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><b>7. Reuse the content as part of a company blog.</b> </i>You spent a lot of time preparing for your media interview. As part of the process you wrote down a number of key talking points and key company information you would like customers to know about. That content can be easily used as part of a company blog. You have this information easily accessible so why not write it up and post it?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We shared a few insights on this process as part of our interview on <a href="http://theprchannel.com/">The PR Channel</a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">There are probably other ways to get the biggest bang from your media placements. If you would like to share one feel free to post it here. </span><br />
<i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></i>

<h2 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">What is your job?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">That question came up at a talk we did recently with a PR
class at a local university.</span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
For public relations practitioners today, and for many marketing
professionals, the answer seems to be simple…</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
Our job is to facilitate change.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
Depending on the scope of the strategy and the project, that
change can come in a number of different ways.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
It can be a full blown change in perception. For example…Our
company suffered through some tough times and was known for “x”, but we have
turned things around and are now known as “y”.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
It can include building relationships with targeted
journalists. For example…Our company was just an afterthought with the media
and our competitors were generating all types of coverage. Now we are being
featured in a number of articles and interviews and have leveled the playing
field from a brand awareness perspective.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
It can include improvements in employee relations and
recruitment.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />

<br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Looking
for big publicity placements for your business?</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Start
by thinking small.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">M<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">any
brand new companies, and a few recently minted fast-growing ones, make the
mistake of attempting to land a big article in a major national publication, or
national TV news network.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">The
thought is that the national publicity will instantly put them on the map and
generate all types of sales and revenues.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">A
whole bucket of problems exists with this approach.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">First,
unless you have an extremely unique product or service, or backed by a
celebrity or well-known investor, chances are you pitches will fall on deaf
ears.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">There
won’t be enough of a news hook to interest an editor, writer or producer, especially
at a time sensitive, over-burdened news operation.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">You,
your marketing team and your PR firm will waste lots of time and lots of money
trying to chase down uninterested journalists. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Secondly,
say you do beat the odds and land an article in The Wall Street Journal or New
York Times, and get a positive review of your product. Do you have the
infrastructure to handle dozens of additional inquiries, sales calls, web
orders and the necessary fulfillment to handle an influx of new customers? </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Keep
in mind these newspapers are national in scope with a large readership in all 50 states.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">If
you have a business to business type company that makes one-on-one sales calls,
do you have a team in place to travel across the country? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Do
you have regional sales representatives that could easily sell and service these
types of clients?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Those
unable to handle a large gaggle of new inquiries, whether online or in person,
may be doing their company more harm than good.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Slow
responses to web inquiries, emails and phone calls (including an inordinate
amount of on-hold wait time) could result in some negative online comments. The
kind that produce the type of PR you definitely don’t want.</span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
</div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><b></b><i></i><u></u><strike></strike><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Instead,
new companies should think small and think local. Focus on those publications
and media outlets in your area that write about companies like yours. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Local
reporters are more likely to write about companies in their home town. You can
generate some nice print features and perhaps a TV story or two.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">This
more localized approach is also a good way to test the media waters.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It
will give you a good primer on how reporters think and work, and what they look
for in a story.</span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><b></b><i></i><u></u><strike></strike><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">While
you may get some inquiries and web hits from a local article, your team should
be able to handle any that occur. It won’t bring your operation to a
standstill.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">The
local stories will also give you plenty of good content to place on your
website, on social media, and will help your search engine optimization. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Plus
a slower, more gradual approach, lets your company put the operational pieces
in place you need to succeed.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">You’ll
be able to handle more demand as your company grows.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Reporters
from national outlets also keep an eye on social media. They watch for trends
and new products to write about.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">Many
major articles and network TV interviews have sprung from write-ups and TV
stories in local markets.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">The
national press may eventually be calling you.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0px;">When the time is right you will have a well-oiled machine. One that is media tested
and one ready to go toe-to-toe with the big boys.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Some tips to
help you differentiate yourself from competitors, expand your base and land
more deals.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">1. Leverage the print media in your
town to become an expert on trends, deals, and happenings on residential real
estate.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Send out a
press release when Trulia or the Case-Shiller Home Price Index or other service
releases new information on housing or housing prices in your area. Call local
TV stations, radio stations, the daily newspaper and the business journal. Let
them know you have some good information to add to the latest survey and are
ready to be interviewed.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">2. Use your news coverage on your
social sites.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Don’t
just use your social sites to post your latest listings and cooking tips. If
you do get an article in the newspaper or an interview on TV make sure you link
to it and let prospective clients know about it. It adds great credibility and
heightens your professionalism.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">3. Participate in popular podcasts.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Podcasts are a growing form of
communication and marketing. Many have a national scope, some have a local
focus, several are focused on real estate. Search these out and ask to be
interviewed. While the audience may be relatively small, listeners have a
definite interest in the topic. Again leverage your appearance by linking the
broadcast to your social sites, email newsletter and other vehicles you may
use.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">4. Utilize video to showcase a
property, highlight your expertise and even interview a happy client.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> The use of video continues to grow
as a key marketing tool. Yet many in real estate have not added this to their
marketing campaign. You don’t need to spend thousands on video production. In
many cases an iPhone video will suffice. Some editing may be required. Post the
videos not only on your website but on YouTube, Vimeo and others where
applicable. Once you can get the hang of it can really be an effective part of
your campaign.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">5. Maintain consistenc</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">y. A solid marketing campaign can
help you avoid a lot of the roller coaster ride associated with “hot” months
and “cold” ones. Many in the industry do a few blog posts, social media
entries, and even an interview, then totally forget about them when business is
good. Time needs to be budgeted each week to maintain marketing consistency. If
you can’t do it yourself, it pays nice dividends to find a marketing
professional or freelancer to help you in this process.</span><br />

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Most business
owners, both large and small, do some form of networking.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The intent
is to make new connections, assist other business owners in their quest to build
their firms, and receive leads or key information to help with their own
business or personal development.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">While much
time may be spent on, “Here’s who we know, who do you know?”, these meetings
are ideal opportunities to educate key contacts on your firm’s past history,

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Here are
five ways to get the most PR value from these meetings.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">1. Develop a strategy.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Instead of just showing up for a
meet and greet, put together a strategy of what you wish to communicate.
Determine what it is you would like your connection to know about you and your
firm. Create a game plan and do your best to stick to it.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">2.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Discuss the
format in advance of the meeting.</b> Connect with the guest in advance and determine
what both you and they expect to gain from the meeting. Whether it is to
generate some hard sales leads, communicate general information or discuss the local
marketplace, connecting in advance will help you keep the meeting on-point and
make it more productive.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">3. Play a little “Show and Tell”. </span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">It’s easy to talk about your company
for hours on end, but it is better to actually<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"> show</i></b> a new connection
your business successes. Never hesitate to bring a laptop and showcase some of
your company’s earned media with print articles and/or TV and radio interviews.
You can also use the time to play your corporate video and other similar items.
This will give your contact a much better idea of your business operation and
plans for moving forward.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">4. Highlight your company’s
reputation as a solutions provider. </span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Most companies are in business to help their clients overcome
problems. They provide a valuable service to help their customers achieve their
goals. Whether it’s accounting, healthcare, law, public relations or technology
related, your meeting may be focused on helping your connection overcome a
current problem or key issue. Showcasing some case studies and highlighting
your work reinforces your firm’s expertise and ability to help overcome
obstacles.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">5. Follow-up in a timely manner. </span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Should your connection request
information or expect to hear from you regarding some contact names and phone
numbers, your goal is to respond as quickly as possible. Many times this gets
put off, if not forgotten. A quick response demonstrates that you value your
contact and their time, and highlights your professionalism as a “can-do”
person. The follow-up provides a nice touch of what he/she could expect from
your firm should they wish to engage your services or what their connections
might expect should they wish to recommend your services.</span><br />

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The ad
reviews for the Super Bowl game are starting to march in faster than Tom Brady
led the Patriots down the field in overtime.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Creativity
is great but will anyone actually buy your product or even remember your name
tomorrow?</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Sure some of
the ads are more for public relations value than sales at the cash register.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The most
creative brands will get lots of talk for a day or two after the game. Some will
achieve the notoriety they seek.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">For others
it is a direct effort to sell a product or at least familiarize the viewer with
the benefits of the brand.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Here then
are a few of the better commercials in no specific order that did or should
drive traffic to a showroom, website or store aisle.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">1. Fabreze.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> No denying the placement right before
the halftime break was a perfect execution of product use. “Halftime is coming
up make sure you use plenty of Fabreze.” They also used other ad placements to
showcase their products.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">2. Pizza Hut.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> If Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest
day of the year for pizza sales then Pizza Hut delivered. Sure the ads with Internet
comedian and former Star Trek star George Takei were not the most creative, and
seemed to be repetitive, but they did drive home the point of two pizzas or
more at $6.99 each. A marketing person would love to see the metrics on how
many of their pizzas were sold during the game.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">3. Skittles.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Good use of the product during the
ad. Creative and funny. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">4. Mr. Clean.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> The hunky Mr. Clean modernized an
older brand in a sexy way. Females probably loved this one.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">5. Persil Pro Clean and Tide.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> The Persil brand may not be as
familiar but they drove home the point with Bill Nye The Science Guy. The Terry
Bradshaw-Tide stain commercial fooled many who thought Bradshaw actually
spilled something on his shirt. Good way to hook the viewer into the ad and
keep you focused until you figured you out. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">6. Alfa Romeo.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> Fiat basically relaunched the brand
with a series of ads. Nice execution without being too preachy or too syrupy.
Should get some folks into a showroom for a test drive.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">7. Melissa McCarthy and Kia.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> This ad took first place in the USA
Today ad meter survey. Fun to watch with the dynamic McCarthy trying to save
the world. Not sure how many people will realize Kia was actually introducing a
new car in this commercial.</span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The PR New
Year is off and running with lots of trending strategies to help your business
grow.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Companies
looking for an edge should consider putting some or all of these tactics into
play to get a heads up on their competition.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">1. Video, video and video. </span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Facebook
Live, Twitter Live, Instagram and Snapchat. And, oh yes, YouTube. Video is
everywhere. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Brands and
businesses have more opportunity than ever to connect with customers and
prospects with strategically produced video. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Unfortunately
not every production will work with every audience. Going live on Facebook is certainly
different than creating a segment for YouTube. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Audiences
will also offer differ by age, gender and interest. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Testing and
learning what approaches are most effective will help you determine what
channels provide you with the best return on investment.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">2. SEO PR.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Search
Engine Optimization (SEO) is always crucial for those businesses who depend on
Google and other search engines for new clients. However highlighting press
releases with key search terms is a practice becoming more popular than ever. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">News
releases should be newsworthy and still follow proper formatting. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Key words
can be strategically placed in the release without losing the intent or flow. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">If your
company uses news releases as a PR vehicle, you can increase your ranking by
adding important search phrases to your document.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">3. Clicks and Hits Journalism.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Bloggers and
writers are paid to churn out content on a weekly or daily basis. Some even
several times per day.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Many are
compensated by the number of views they receive.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">As full time
staffs continue to shrink at newspapers and print publications, writers are
under greater pressure than ever to produce solid writing that excites their
fan base.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Businesses
and PR practitioners that can assist in this process are a welcome resource. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Those who
can deliver a nice package of ready-to-go information that is on-target and
on-point have an excellent chance of generating a high level of media coverage
for their clients.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">4. Headline Drama.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">As mentioned
earlier, writers are under greater pressure to produce solid content. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">They have
less time to read and study each and every media pitch that comes along.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Emails with
dramatic, fun and highly topical subject lines are more likely to be read than
others.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Marketers
should avoid the bland and tailor their writing accordingly to greatly improve
their chances for coverage.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">5. Podcasts.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Podcasting is
growing in popularity as a communications vehicle.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The overall
quality and technology has greatly improved from prior years.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Many
podcasts have larger audiences than others. Some have 500-1,000 listeners or
more, reach a highly targeted audience, and are aired on regular radio stations
and multiple platforms.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The podcasts
are an excellent tool to post on your website and on social vehicles.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Business
owners can generate more credibility and increase web visits by serving as a frequent
interview guest.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Many
business people are told that writing a book can be a great marketing tool to
help them promote their personal brand and their business. Yet, unless you are
a well-known celebrity with a large publishing house behind your efforts, the
job of promoting it will be left up to you.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-size: small;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Having
worked with many well-known (and some not so well-known) authors and speakers
over the years, he are a few tricks of the trade that could be most beneficial
as part of your communications game plan.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">1. Add your book title and authorship to
your email signature</span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">. </span></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">This is so easy and simple that it is often
overlooked. If you send </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">out thousands of emails per year (and who doesn’t) why
not use it </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">as a marketing tool? Under your name put… “Author of 20 Ideas That
Will Rock Your Business…Forever” or whatever the title. It lets your business
colleagues, clients, friends and others know that you wrote a book, that you
are a thought leader in the industry (isn’t that what the book was intended to
do in the first place?) and perhaps you just might know something to help them
in their business endeavors. Who knows, you might get a few calls from</span><span style="line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;"> </span></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">people
asking you how they can purchase a copy.</span></div>
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">2. Leverage the book for media
coverage.</span></b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">If your goal is to secure articles and editorials in targeted magazines publishing a book raises your level of credibility with journalists.
They tend to regard those who have written a book in higher r<span style="font-size: small;"></span>egard than those who
have not. After all journalists are writers, many of which would like to
publish their own book. The same holds true for those
who pursue television interviews, radio interviews, blog write-ups and podcast appearances. Send key influencers a copy. Utilize the book to open doors and pursue earned media.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;"><br /></span>
<span style="line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">3. Leverage the book for speaking
opportunities.</span></b></span><span style="line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Much
publicity, exposure and even sales can result directly from speaking at
conferences and trade shows. </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Provided you can deliver a solid one hour
presentation or serve as a</span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">member of a panel, the book can
help you land appearances in front of your targeted audience. The author of
Book XXX has a lot of credibility with event planners. Make sure you mention it
on your speaking application or even mail a copy along with the proper forms.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><b>4. Pursue book reviews.</b></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">This tends to be a little tricky but
can have great rewards. Securing a review with a key trade journal, and with
Amazon and/or Barnes & Noble will give you instant credibility. Now your
need readers to comment about the book. You may have to hand out books to
friends and colleagues and encourage them to place their thoughts on the site.
Of course you run the risk of someone not liking your writing or disagreeing
with your opinions. But if you have done your homework, and have a well written
piece, over time you should receive dozens of favorable comments. You may even
become an Amazon best-selling author in your category. Then you can use your
success for even bigger and better opportunities.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCcUnANnALnp3h51amzJkOfy10lJVhAFQcc0wcMguwx_Y_4ENGzWxzA7TmUGc3deF2u6eWrLXa948BJtJcRfItmZikIY0A6igK6SoybzCTA_qmRDX-Q5pXRcpRsqxq50mCUpJpP3LpybE/s1600/Image-emailoncellphone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCcUnANnALnp3h51amzJkOfy10lJVhAFQcc0wcMguwx_Y_4ENGzWxzA7TmUGc3deF2u6eWrLXa948BJtJcRfItmZikIY0A6igK6SoybzCTA_qmRDX-Q5pXRcpRsqxq50mCUpJpP3LpybE/s320/Image-emailoncellphone.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Yes, we are all
sick of email. We get dozens if not hundreds a day.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Imagine what
it is like for a news reporter, producer or editor who has to sort through these
all day long and pick out a few that will connect best with their readers or viewing
audience.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Here are three
things you can do to make your email’s more impactful and give you a much
better chance of generating media coverage for your product or service.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">1. Make it News Worthy.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Sounds
simple but how many news releases look alike and read alike.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Typical
headline…<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Jumbo Burger to Open on Main Street</i></b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Better
headline…<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Fast Growing Restaurant Chain Jumbo Burger Coming to Davisville at XXXX
Main Street; Will Serve Some of the Largest Burgers in all of Missouri (yes, we
measured them); Opening Set for XXXX Large Crowd Expected for First Day</i></b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Consider the
news hooks. The first example will raise a few eyebrows, “Oh good a new burger
joint is coming to town”. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Unless the
chain is extremely well known chances are it will get a little mention in the
back of the daily paper or business journal and probably no TV coverage.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The second
one creates lots of excitement with lots of visual opportunities (think TV and
multimedia). “Wow a new big chain is coming here with lots of huge burgers.
They measured and weighed them, we can show that in a photo in print or a part
of a TV story.” And more…</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">“We also
better think about getting a camera crew down to the opening if they are
expecting a really big turnout.” And more…</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;"><span style="margin: 0px;"> </span>“Maybe we can get a few sound bites (pardon
the pun) with the owner before the opening.”</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">2. Tailor It to the Medium.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">In most
cases a headline for a newspaper, magazine or trade journal should differ than
one that is being sent to a television news desk.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">A business to
business type company may not have a lot of good visuals or be appropriate for
any type of TV news coverage.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Their
headline could have more statistics or talk more about the industry problem
they solve. This can engage the editor of the trade journal but would not be
appropriate for television.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">Conversely,
a business to consumer type firm, can stage an event or do something that
benefits the community. This lends itself to more action and some prime visual
opportunities if the message is written in the proper manner.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">3. Keep It Brief.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">The headline
is just that, a headline. It is not the entire news release. Too many words
will mess up the subject box. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">If the pitch
is too wordy and rambles on, chances are a reporter will delete it or it will end
up in the junk file.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">As the
second headline in the Jumbo Burger example indicates, you can write something
with a little length if it has impact and stays on point.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 11px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; margin: 0px;">A good
headline should be written well enough to excite the producer or writer. It
should help steer them into the body of the new release for better
consideration and a much better chance your news will be covered.</span></div>

<h2>
<br /></h2>
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong>1. Have a great story to tell.</strong> This is key. If you don’t have anything interesting for the media, why would they cover it? The skill in this is to identify the story idea and then work with people in the company to flush out the specifics and give it some personality to make it appetizing for the media. <br /><strong>2. Determine what tools you will need to communicate your story.</strong> Sure everyone needs a news release but what other tools will help sell your story? This could be a video, infographic, white paper or research that elevates your pitch and helps you stand out from the crowd. Visuals and graphics sell well with today’s audience.<br /><strong>3. Research your targeted media before sending anything out.</strong> It is wise to look at your targeted publications or TV stations and see if they run stories similar to those you are pitching. If your story idea is business oriented it will be difficult to sell it to a consumer related publication. Read and watch and see if you story idea makes sense for the media you are targeting.<br /><strong>4. Write well.</strong> You need to communicate your pitch in a news release or email. This needs to be done in simple, concise but interesting sentences. Busy journalists don’t have time to read elongated pitches and releases that don’t get to the point. Make sure you write in a style that sells your story or find someone who can.<br /><strong>5. Create a good email headline.</strong> Since most communication is done by email, you need to make your subject line interesting so it stands out from the crowd. Instead of “Man Finds Feast At Area Hamburger Restaurant” make it “Man Eats 12 Hamburgers in 5 Minutes Sets New Record-Has Great Story To Tell Why He Did It”<br /><strong>6. Create good talking points for the interviewee.</strong> Nothing is worse than having an unprepared interviewee whether it is a CEO or someone else in the organization. Determine what you wish to communicate in advance. Write them out and make sure the interviewee stays on point.<br /><strong>7. Rehearse and role play.</strong> Speaking to a reporter on the phone is one thing, doing a TV interview is another. It is good to rehearse in advance and do some role play with one person playing the interviewer. For TV, using a studio-like setting with a microphone and bright lights is always good training.<br /><strong>8. Dress appropriately.</strong> You are the “brand”. Dress how you want people to perceive your brand if you are going to be on TV or in a photograph for an article. A t-shirt and tattered jeans usually won’t cut it if you head a large company, or even a small one for that matter. You want viewers to have positive images of doing business with your firm.<br /><strong>9. Leverage your story or article and give it “legs”.</strong> One method for gaining additional media coverage from one story is to leverage it for another. For example when one of our clients was on the NBC Nightly News we contacted the local newspaper and told them about it. They had a local gossip type column and ran a story that our client was on network television.<br /><strong>10. Understand how to amplify your news on social media.</strong> You can reach thousands more by sending out your article or TV story on social media. You can link it to your corporate or personal sites. In many cases your followers and friends may like it and re-post it. This way you generate thousands of more views with just a little effort.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMHux2bycee8RmpHFMENPTu4EsUE78koueQC58jxQXx6V_-nxTka1fISoTvaRUs-z3ZJLi0OkOd6lmSC6HJePE-e2vNM6YhNJi0PysXyfFeGmqsKL-oMnStwmTQrB-T_3G05DWedSCQrs/s1600/DigitalMarketinggraphic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMHux2bycee8RmpHFMENPTu4EsUE78koueQC58jxQXx6V_-nxTka1fISoTvaRUs-z3ZJLi0OkOd6lmSC6HJePE-e2vNM6YhNJi0PysXyfFeGmqsKL-oMnStwmTQrB-T_3G05DWedSCQrs/s320/DigitalMarketinggraphic.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1. Develop a social media strategy with an end game in mind. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What do you wish to accomplish, do you have the resources (budgetary and personnel) to dedicate to it, what length of time will it take before you see results, and how will you measure the success of the campaign?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2. Match social messaging to prospects at different levels of the purchasing funnel. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you can segment this out you can tailor your messages to those ranging from general awareness to those ready to consider to those ready to make a buying decision.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3. Under Armour owns My Fitness Pal and related apps. They have 160 million emails at their disposal. (Time to buy the stock.)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4. Personalize content and engage the community before you start infusing the brand into the message.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5. According to LinkedIn, an average of 7 decision makers can be involved in the buying decision. 10 pieces of content are consumed by each decision maker before a purchase is made. That is 10 x 7 or 70 pieces of content. Messaging needs to be consistent and engaging. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">6. .1 to `1% is a good click through rate on LinkedIn.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">7. Keep content digestible. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">LinkedIn has ingredients for a successful content strategy modeled after food. 1 is "Raisin Brand"-Everyday Content. 2 is "Spinach"-educational and good for you. 3 is "Roasts"- that which is time consuming to produced but high in quality. 4 is "Chocolate Cake"-fun and entertaining like games. 5 is "Tabasco Sauce"-bold statements, strong points of view.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">8. 65% of content should be Raisin Brand and Spinach. 20% should be Roasts. 15% Cake and Tabasco.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">9. Connect personally and then build clients out to the Collective, or everyone.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">10. Social should be bold, be mobile, be nerdy, be learned and be nimble.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">11. Determine your average cost to acquire a customer. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">12. Use paid search. Use Google Task Manager.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">13. Small businesses should spend 50% of the budget on Search Engine Optimization.</span><br />

<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Yes they are 250+ miles away. Yes they are in the AFC,
against the grain of our local NFC heritage. And yes, St. Louis fans are so
frustrated right now with the NFL they might never emotionally invest in
another football team.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">However as teams start to maneuver to gain some type of
foothold in the local market, the Chiefs seem to be the most likely of
candidates to grab some meat from the carnage left by the Rams’ departure.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Here are 5 marketing strategies the Chiefs can use to start building a
fan base in the ‘Lou and eventually become “Missouri’s team”.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">1. Play a game or
games in St. Louis.</span></b><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"> Start with a pre-season contest at the Jones Dome.
Perhaps schedule a contest with Indianapolis or Chicago. Those two are also
geographically within a few hours drive of our town. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Then try to get one actual
regular season game per year scheduled here. It might take some high level maneuvering and hand-wringing
on the part of Chiefs’ ownership but they can work it out. After all the NFL
schedules regular season games in the U.K. and last I checked St. Louis is a
lot closer than London. Eventually the rotation will provide a Chiefs’ home
matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. That would be most entertaining to stage
that game in St. Louis, wouldn’t it?</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">2. Start a community
awareness program. </span></b><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Host clinics at St. Louis area boys clubs or other
facilities. This can be done during the offseason. The Chiefs already have a
St. Louis connection in Mizzou’s Jeremy Maclin. Plus they boast Chase Daniel,
perhaps the best quarterback ever to play in Columbia. It should not be too
difficult to get a few of these going. In addition to providing encouragement,
instruction, and a fun day for area youth, it would generate a lot of positive
media coverage and good exposure.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">3. Generate more
games on local St. Louis television and radio. </span></b><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">The Chiefs should work with
the NFL and the networks to get more exposure in the ‘Lou. Many of their games
are already televised locally. As a playoff team in 2015, the Chiefs are likely
to show-up on prime time games such as Monday Night Football, Thursday Night
Football and perhaps Sunday night. Most of the early/later afternoon Sunday contests
will likely be televised. The team could also find a local radio station to
carry all of their games.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">4. Increase
merchandise sales at area outlets</span></b><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">. This could take a while and may not
start to occur until the three prior strategies are put into action. But if the
Chiefs start playing at the Dome on a regular basis you may start seeing a few
more red and gold hats at area stores and a few more on the street.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">5. Create special
ticket packages for St. Louis fans. </span></b><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">The Chiefs could create something of a
“St. Louis Section” at Arrowhead. A creative travel agent could put together
several packages with area hotels and restaurants as part of a football
weekend. Perhaps charter a bus or two and provide transportation. Many locals
already travel the 1 hour, 30 minutes plus it takes to get to Columbia to watch
Mizzou. Why not drive another hour and 45 minutes and see an NFL game?</span></div>

It’s as simple
as that.</b></span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Whether it’s an ad, a
brochure, a LinkedIn post or email, the art of wordsmithing can be used to not
only help you connect with your customers and targeted prospects, but to generate
more interest and more sales.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Often misunderstood, wordsmithing
is not just about brochure writing and proof reading. It is the creation of marketing
messages in any medium that can raise the temperature of a prospect and spur
them into action.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Here are five ways to help
you get better results from your writing whether it be in print or online.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">1. Write <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">For</i>
Your Clients Not <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">At</i> Them.</span></b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"> Research your clients and find out why they selected
your firm. What words and phrases do <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">they
</i>use to describe your company? </span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Examples…</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">“They were the only one
with Novus 500 sprayer that can do 500 impressions per minute the others can
only do 250.”</span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“They did a lot of research about us and were
able to cut our expenses by 25% no one else made the attempt.”</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">“We were impressed with
their portfolio of work especially with companies similar to ours in size and
revenue. They have an outstanding reputation as indicated by the awards they
have won.”</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Take these golden nuggets
from your customers. Then go beyond keywords to demonstrate your value in clear,
concise statements. </span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">2. Know The Value of Your Product and State It. </span></b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Does your product or service solve a particular problem?
Are you communicating those details in your messaging? </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Everyone has a list of
product benefits. State them in a way a prospective customer will notice and
find interesting.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">3. Tell A Story. </span></b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Good marketing begins with good storytelling. Can you drive home your
message with an interesting example of how you helped a company or individual
with a specific solution for their problem?</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Example…</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">We help you save money. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Ben’s Widget Company had a
high amount of overhead. They found they were spending 30 per cent more on
widget making than the industry average. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Ben was looking for ways to produce his
widgets more efficiently and invited in a number of companies to address the
problem. Our firm XYZ Manufacturing has a widget maker that can produce widgets
at twice the speed of Ben’s equipment and cut man-hours and reduce costs. He
was instantly impressed and gave us the P.O. for the equipment. Shortly we were
able to help him reduce his costs by not only 30% but 40% and give him a great
return on investment.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">4. Adjust for Different Audiences.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Some of your customers may
skew older, others younger. These differing customers and prospects may require
differing methods of communication.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Older customers may prefer
print products. These give you the opportunity to use more words and expand
your message with case studies and more detail.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Customers of a younger
vintage may prefer social media and online communication. This requires shorter
messages. Often a visual can help get your point across.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">No matter the vehicle key
words and phrases should remain basically the same. The goal is to maintain
consistency as your messaging successfully differentiates your firm from your
competition.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">5. Test for Best Results.</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">The right words can sway
elections, reposition an entire industry (see “gaming” vs. “gambling”), and put
new life into a product or service.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">However some phrases work
better than others. It is best to try a few versions of your newly created messages
and measure the difference.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">A small change, such as adjusting
one word in a sentence, can often lead to big results.</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Love him or hate him. Agree or disagree. One thing
Donald Trump knows how to do is command an interview. Neither an endorsement
nor a disparagement, here are simply five lessons learned from observing “The Donald”
that you can apply for your next media interview. </span></div>
<br />
<ol style="direction: ltr; list-style-type: decimal;">
<li style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Have a strategy.</span></b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">
Is your goal to create some branding awareness for your product or service,
publicize a special event, or discuss some key topics in the news? Trump is
expert at controlling the interview to make sure his points get across. Unless
you are running for office, or starring in a blockbuster film, chances are your
interview will be short, around three to five minutes. Be prepared to get the
most value out of appearance.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in;">
<br /></div>
</li>
<li style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold;"><div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Be
interesting. </span></b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">No one can ever say Trump is a dull
interview. He uses his words and actions to get people to react and respond.
Those selected for an interview usually having something to say on an important
topic or issue. Therefore make it interesting for the audience. Follow Trump’s lead
by interspersing your comments with stories and examples that the audience will
appreciate. No one wants to hear a bunch of monotonous comments to a series of
questions. Look for ways to add spice to your answers.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in;">
<br /></div>
</li>
<li style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Use voice inflection for emphasis. </span></b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Trump
has used his years of television expertise to optimize his responses and engage
the audience. You can do the same by lowering your voice on some key points and
raising it on others. Viewers tend to listen more carefully as your voice
fluctuates from a loud to a softer tone.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in;">
<br /></div>
</li>
<li style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;"><div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Take charge of the interview. </span></b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">The
Donald has no problem steering the conversation his way. He even lets the
interviewer speak from time to time. Unlike Trump those who only appear
occasionally on TV or radio may be a little hesitant to channel the
conversation to their benefit. Rise up and use your time to get your key points
across, even if it means veering down a path that differs from the
interviewer’s original question.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0in;">
<br /></div>
</li>
<li style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold;"><div style="color: black; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Display
humbleness and empathy. </span></b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Some view Trump as a blowhard.
However, depending on the tone of the interview, he displays humility by
thanking the host for his or her time and efforts associated with the
opportunity.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You can be energetic and
engaging as well without being bombastic. Always thank the interviewer and
display your appreciation. It will help gain a return interview at a future
date.</span></div>

Create An Engaging Headline.</b><br />
Rather than a typical headline...<br />
<i>Widget Inc. To Open In St. Louis</i>...try...<br />
<i>Widget Inc. To Employ 1,000 Add $2 million To Local Economy With New St. Louis Store.</i><br />
Why? Reporters get dozens if not hundreds of email pitches per day. You have about 10 seconds of a reporter's time to scan your pitch and decide if it is worth a closer look. A captivating headline can help it stand out amidst the clutter. Which reporter would not be intrigued enough to cover a story like this that adds greatly to the local economy? Even if your release is about a small store with 20 employees think of the benefits it brings to the community and get them into the headline.<br />
<br />
2. <b>Target The Right Publications.</b><br />
A press release that may be a good fit for a business journal or daily newspaper may not work with a local lifestyle publication, fashion heavy magazine or suburban newspaper. Spend some time researching different publications to see what they like to run and how your idea or pitch could fit in.<br />
<br />
<b>3. Target The Right Reporters.</b><br />
Each daily newspaper or business journal has individual reporters responsible for specific areas of interest or "beats". One may cover retail while another could cover architecture and construction. Locate and target the reporter who covers your business sector before you blindly send out press releases to a news desk.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Follow-up With A Phone Call.</b><br />
Since reporters get the deluge of emails described above, in most cases you should follow-up your mailing with a phone call. A phone call will verify they received your release and will enable you to start a conversation about the importance of your information to the publication's audience. It also ensures that your release will get through all the filters and firewalls many publications have put in place. Though some news people may frown on this tactic, in a number of cases, as a St. Louis Public Relations Agency, we have had to email a good story idea two or three times before a reporter actually receives it and starts writing about it.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Attach A Photo Or Video.</b><br />
Now that nearly every publication, radio station, and TV station is a multimedia publisher it helps to enclose a photo and/or video along with your release. Even if the reporter does not use these materials they can add clarity to your story pitch and greatly improve the odds that your email will be seen, read, and acted upon.<br />

<br />
<br />
Nearly every business uses a PowerPoint presentation as
part of the marketing and sales process.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The stack of digital slides has become synonymous with
sales calls, group presentations and speaking engagements.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
While many companies use a PowerPoint to highlight
revenue goals, product information and offer a glance at company history, they
often miss some key messaging opportunities. Messages that can help “humanize”
their brand and bring some marketing value to the monotony of graphs, pie
charts and endless bullet points.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Here are five ways to get more marketing value and
clarity from your PowerPoint presentation…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>1. Tell a Story.</b> Capture the audience’s
interest with a little storytelling about your brand. Start with a strong
beginning. Continue through with good support information in the middle and,
like a good book, finish it off with a solid ending.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>2. Limit the use
of graphics.</b> Your audience can only absorb one idea at a time. Overloading
them with too many charts, tables and clip art only adds to the confusion. You
can place a sentence or two, or one intriguing photo on each slide, and explain
it audibly.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>3. Limit slide
clutter.</b> In addition to keeping graphics to a minimum, keep your slides clean
and neat by reducing the overuse of logos and background images. An oversized
corporate logo doesn’t need to be on each slide. Photos of clouds, skylines and
production lines also need not be overused as backstage props throughout the
presentation. Trying to overwrite key information over a busy image can make
your slide confusing and difficult to read.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>4. Use a
consistent type style.</b> The type should be large enough to see and easy to
read. It should also be consistent on each slide. Switching fonts and styles
can confuse the audience and appear as though your presentation is
disorganized.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>5. Minimize the
number of slides.<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Unless you are presenting at a 2 hour symposium you
probably won’t need 50 slides to state your case. Time your presentation so you
can interact with the audience and emphasize key information. It is always better to avoid dragging your group into information overload and leave them begging
for more.<o:p></o:p><br />
